Great vacation in Miami

We went to Miami for the first time and it’s been a dream destination for years. American ride in the cabriolet with the downloaded roof and the streets of Miami just like in Miami Vice 🙂

Flight Vienna – Miami

Our flight was with the Portuguese airline TAP Portugal. Airlines can only recommend. For travel from central and eastern Europe, the ideal length of flights is spread out. No sitting 11 hours in the plane. On board, we were told by the staff who had been assisted throughout the flight. On board TAP, you will also get free food in the economy class. After taking off you choose from a diner and the other meal before you get baguette, ham, vegetables and sweetness. Eat was enough, you do not need to beat hunger 🙂

We flew with friends in February, so the best weather without cloud and high temperatures accompanied us along the streets of the city at every turn. We used UBER to travel from the airport to the hotel. It’s a great way to travel in such a big city. No promotions, but you have an overview of prices, quick booking and driving comfort. We drove with UBER only for a while because we borrowed a car. The best price was published in AVIS. Although we got the Mercedes C300 instead of Mustang, we have a great car. Clean, comfortable and priced at about $ 40 a day. Moreover, when the car is returned, the company did not make problems.

Ocean Drive

What to do in Miami?

Miami Beach

Undoubtedly the biggest attraction in Miami is the famous Miami Beach. Cycling, white sand, skates, bikes, or volleyball players. It’s a place where you can really play sports but also relax. Often there are various accompanying events, we were lucky to have a volleyball tournament where they played only models from all over the world 🙂

The biggest rush is on Ocean Drive. Tanned celebrities, people sitting in cafes on the edges of the sidewalks, lots of designer or sport shops, and shops with traditional souvenirs and clothing with name of the City. There are also the best lounge bars and the world’s most famous clubs open to sunrise.

The best way to get to know South Beach is not a walk, not by car, but by bicycle. And the best way I can recommend is rent a bike from City Bike. Bicycle locking / unlocking stations are on every step. Just insert the card, choose the length of the rental, select the bicycle number that is located in the docking station and you can go. There are many biking trails at South Beach. I recommend the route alongside the beach from the 41st street to the South of South Beach. Pay attention to sections that are intended for pedestrians only. In that case, rather choose a path along the main street, or you can also walk through your own.

Everglades Alligator Farm

In the morning we jumped into our Mercedes and headed west. About an hour’s drive from Miami Beach is the marshland with a popular attraction. Ride on the Hovercrafts and search for alligators. You can choose either a guide with hovercrafts for big group for around $ 18 per person or a private guide for you and your friends max 4 people. Here, however, the price is about $ 180 per ride. But after about an hour of inaction, we finally looked at alligators in a minizoo at the headquarters of the company.

Bus & boat tour

A great way how we got to know the city was a bus tour. We bought at located at the corner of Lincoln Road and James Ave city tour by bus and then by boat. After agreement, a small van picked up us directly from the hotel and drove to the address from where we continued on the open upper deck of the doubledecker bus through a tour of the most interesting parts of the city that you might never have visited. Little Havana, Star Island, or Downtown from a different perspective. However, prepare your backsheesh. They ask tips every time you leave the ship or the bus. Finally, as elsewhere.

Welcome to Miami Bienvenidos a Miami

Miami Seaquarium

The great water world Miami Seaquarium, located on Virginia Key Island, is certainly worth to visit. You will find a huge number of aquatic animals from sea horses to orcas. In addition, the program is enriched with a show of seals or dolphins, which captivates not only the children’s audience. Make your time about 5 hours, preferably if you arrive in the morning.

A trip to Key Biscayne

Make a small trip to Florida´s most southern island of Florida Keys. Although the island is not so well-groomed and beautiful as South Beach, you can find here more piece and calm. It is a quiet place with a magnificent view of Miami. For entrance to Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park you will pay aproximetly 3 dolars per person, but you have beautiful, clean and quiet park, where you can make a barbeque grill party with friend under the open sky or walk through pure natural beach.

Little Havana

Visit of thic Cuban district is a cultural experience for us. It is best to speak Spanish here, but you can use this language throughout the city. Up to 60% of city´s population is of Latin origin. The most famous street of Little Havana is Calle Ocho lined with the stalls with fresh fruit, souvenirs, restaurants, as well as Cuban cigars shops and freshly roasted Cuban coffee. If you are lucky, you can experience one of the many festivals that are organized here. The most famous is called Carnival Miami, that takes a whole week.

If you are in Miami, go shopping. Luxury boutiques can be found at South Beach. If you prefer large shopping centers, visit Aventura Mall, located in the Aventura district of Biscayne Boulevard. Or, head to the Dolphin Mall, which is more focused as the outlet shopping center. Another giant outlet shopping mall is the Sawgrass Mills located in Sunrise, less than an hour’s drive north of downtown Miami.

We enjoyed the city very much. Great weather, people, beaches, or food. It’s just that we did not have time for Orlando and its Universal Studios. We see you next.
