Practical Tips

Getting There

Fly into Tirana International Airport (TIA). Budget airlines now serve Albania from many European cities.

Transportation

Rent a car for flexibility, especially for the Riviera and mountain areas. Public buses are cheap but slow.

Best Time

May-June or September-October for pleasant weather and fewer crowds. July-August is peak season.

Money

Albania uses Lek (ALL). Euro is often accepted in tourist areas. ATMs are widely available.

Language

Albanian is the official language. English is spoken in tourist areas. Learning a few phrases is appreciated.

Safety

Albania is very safe for travelers. The locals are incredibly hospitable and will often invite you for coffee.
